Ingredients

  • 2 warm boiled potatoes

  • 1 level teaspoon turmeric

  • ½ green chilli, chopped

  • 1 pinch chilli powder

  • 1 teaspoon chopped coriander or parsley leaves

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • Fat for deep frying

  • 1 level teaspoon salt

  • For batter: 1 tablespoon gram flour, water to make a thick paste, 1 pinch salt

Methods

  • Peel and mash the potatoes.

  • Add all the spices and lemon juice to the potatoes and mix well.

  • Form balls from this mixture.

  • Heat the pan with fat.

  • Prepare the batter: mix gram flour, salt and water into a paste.

  • Turn the balls in the batter and fry in deep fat until golden brown.

  • Serve hot or cold with coconut chutney for lunch, supper or at buffet parties.
