  • 4 oz flour

  • 1 rounded teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 oz sugar

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 1 egg

  • Water to mix into a soft dough

Methods

  • Sift the flour and baking powder together into a mixing basin.

  • Add the sugar.

  • Beat the egg well and add ¼ cup of water.

  • Add the egg mixture to the flour and mix into a soft dough. Add more water if necessary.

  • Knead the dough thoroughly until smooth and clean from the hands and basin.

  • Cover with a towel and leave to rise for about ½ an hour in a warm place.

  • When risen, roll out on a floured board to about ½ inch thickness.

  • Cut into squares or triangles.

  • Fry in deep fat until golden brown.

  • Drain on kitchen paper or brown paper to remove surplus fat.
