Ingredients

250g rice

100g lentils (or green grams)

2 onions

150g grated coconut
-
4g salt
-
2g pepper (optional)

30ml cooking oil

Methods

Boil the lentils in just enough water to cover them.

Sort, wash and drain the rice.

Put the rice to boil. The boiling water should be at the same level as the rice.

Peel and slice the onions.

Prepare 200ml of coconut milk.

Fry the onion.

When the lentils are nearly ready, add them to the fried onions.

Add the rice to the lentils and onion.

Pour the coconut milk into the mixture and stir occasionally. The coconut milk should be just enough to finish cooking both rice and lentils without making the mixture too dry.

Cook slowly until ready and serve with a suitable garnish.
